• A simple sentence is a short sentence consisting of a subject and a predicate.
For example, “Mathilde was dissatisfied with her simple life.”
• A compound sentence is a sentence that has more than one main clause combined
using a coordinating conjunction.
For example, “Mathilde longed for beautiful dresses, but she could not afford
them.”
• Whereas, a complex sentence has a main clause and a subordinate clause. The
two clauses can be combined using a subordinating conjunction.
For example, “Despite her modest circumstances, Mathilde dreamt of a life
of luxury.”
